The Computer-controlled lathe process at Bowstone offer a number of advantages over traditional (i.e., manual) lathes, including increased accuracy, repeatability, and productivity. They also offer greater flexibility, as they can be quickly programmed to create parts with different shapes and sizes. These metal parts then can be assembled in-house. Additionally, computer-controlled lathes are less likely to experience operator error, which can lead to scrap or rework.

Our CNC Lathing Process
Bowstone’s lathe has a high-precision chuck, precisely rotated with zero vibrations as it cycles. Lathing is a process we use to shape material, typically metal, by spinning it on a lathe. This process can be used to create everything from small objects like coins to large objects like aircraft parts. Lathing is also a popular method for creating decorative objects and furniture.

Our CNC Milling Process
At Bowstone we use a die to cut out shapes from a sheet of metal. Die-cutting is similar to stamping, but it can be used with thicker metals and can create more complex shapes. We are the die cutting experts!
Milling is a process we use to remove material from a workpiece using a rotating cutting tool. This cutting method is just as popular as jet cutting and laser cutting. It can be used to create features such as slots, grooves, and pockets, or to produce three-dimensional shapes. Bowstone utilizes the Baileigh machine for projects that require more attention to detail.
Milling is typically performed on CNC (computer numerical control) machines, which use computer-controlled rotary cutters to remove material. The speed, motion, and positioning of the cutters are all controlled by the machine, making milling an exact process. The process uses computer numeric controls to operate milling machines.
